An empty 40ft shipping container weighs about 3,800 kg. A 40ft High Cube is slightly heavier at 3,900 kg. Loaded, a 40ft can hold up to 26 tonnes of cargo. The longer the container, the lower the loaded weight cap compared to the 20ft, because cargo distribution becomes more critical.

Did you know?
A 40ft container is not simply a longer version of a 20ft container. The extra length changes how weight is distributed, which is why loading patterns become more important.
